“he lied to me that he came back from the USA and would be returning to the USA one month after our marriage ceremonies, but I didn’t know he was brought back to the village to live permanently by his family” she said.

It was a very rewarding session with Chief Dan Okeke when I paid him a visit at his residence in PortHarcourt. Rewarding and revealing in the sense that it afforded me the one-on-one opportunity to further ask questions, seek answers and get guarantees from him about his political stock.
This erudite but humble politician, if he must be called a politician, comes across to me as a technocrat in politics and a very very honest man who feels empathy and compassion for his people. I was not surprised therefore when he condemned some lawmakers who argue that their job is just to make laws when indeed lawmaking alone is not enough for the youths and other suffering constituents.
The best laws that you can make for a hungry and impoverished people is to give them employment, provide healthcare services, education, build good roads, etc. Hence Constituency Projects must be attracted and supervised to fruition, not embezzling the funds meant for these projects.
If after making beautiful laws in Abuja and the farm roads and the other local roads are hardly passable during rainy seasons, how is farming possible and how are other economic activities that rely on transportation possible?
Chief Dan has been in the business of philanthropy, empowering the youths and giving scholarships to indigent students of his constituency. Currently, he has attracted two roads to Ihechiowa and Mkporo. He will do more and more when he gets to the House of Representatives. I say this because I know him so well.
We cannot continue to have thugs and stone-hearted “representatives” who go to Abuja for selfish reasons and only come back home to their constituents during elections to hand them peanuts and more promises, only for the suffering constituents to find out soon after the election that between promises and performance there’s a chasm. He is not in that mold. Chief Dan comes highly recommended.
Chief Dan, in one word, seeks to promote the welfare of his people. He is down to earth. He is as honest as he is compassionate. There is no better time to put such a humane persona to use than now. We must put our best foot forward.
Let us send Chief Dan to go for us. He is tested and can be trusted.
Constituency Projects: Kalu formally receives Award Plaque, vows to halt Rural-Urban Migration

Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on Wednesday formally received the Award plaque for winning the “Overall Best Constituency Projects and Human Relations Award”at the 2022 Senate Press Corps award held earlier in 2022.
The award ceremony organised by the Apex media body of the Senate had in June honoured Kalu in recognition of his efforts at executing massive developmental projects and promoting a healthy communication synergy amongst his colleagues, constituents and workers within the National Assembly.
Fielding questions from the press shortly after he was presented with the plaque, the former governor stated that his goal is to mitigate rural – urban migration through the provision of basic amenities for residents within rural areas.
Kalu told the journalists that the movement of youths from the rural to urban areas in search of greener pastures can be discouraged by enhancing the livelihood of communities through the provision of basic public utilities, cottage industries among others.
The need to create avenues for rural dwellers to generate income within rural areas was also canvassed by the award winning Senator, citing an Example with a recent deal he signed with PowerChina, Monday, in Abuja, signed the deal for the establishment of five Agro-Industrial parks, worth $500 million.
On his re-election bid, Kalu expressed confidence in his scorecard , noting that the people will vote for him and his All Progressives Congress Party as a result of the massive infrastructural developments erected within their localities in the last over three and a half years.
Kalu reinstated his commitment to put the people first; “We are strong stakeholders with the people and we believe in the people. It is my job any day I will be in politics to leave the people then that means I have left politics, so the people come first, must also come last for me.
“We need to create an income based revenue for our people to be able to earn income and stop migrating to urban areas and want to stop people living in the rural areas coming to urban areas. I’m sure you would have heard about the business partnership venture we’re doing with the Chinese in Abia North District and it is purely private business driven. And our duty is to continue making what will benefit the people because if we are in politics and the people are not happy we should not also be happy.
Asked about his thoughts on his return bid, Kalu expressed confidence in emerging victorious , noting that he is his own rival as no other candidate could match his popularity and acceptance by the people.
Kalu remained upbeat at securing ninety eight percent Victory for his party; “Election is coming and I’m not shaky because I know I am with the people. The people are there. The election in Abia North I can tell you people frankly it is Orji Kalu versus Orji Kalu , there is no other candidate and that is the truth. People might be taking money from people they want to run for election, but they’re not really the election. The election there is Orji Kalu versus Orji Kalu.
“It’s only one party in our area and that party is the All Progressive’s Congress (APC) and people will vote on 98% APC in that senatorial district. I can bet anybody with money. It’s not something. It is not rocket science so it is me versus me.
“It’s my attitude to the people that will make them give to another person,there’s no vacancy in the area.
The former expressed gratitude to the organisation for finding him worthy to be entrusted with such a prestigious award amongst other lawmakers like himself, Kalu said the award will spur him to do more for his people.

Abia North: Orji Kalu’s Achievements Not Surprising, Performance In His DNA— Prof. Kalu
Prof. Uduma Kalu, a renowned academician on Friday commended the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on the number of projects he has attracted and executed in Abia North Senatorial District since he was elected in 2019.
The University Don stated this in a chat with newsmen, saying that he is not surprised by the performance of the former Abia State Governor.
He said: “Abia North Senatorial District has made progress in the last three and half years and the remarkable results are there for all to see.
“It is not surprising that all over the country, when people are giving examples of good stories to tell of former governors that performed well while in office, majority of Abians still name Orji Uzor Kalu as the best. During his era as Governor of Abia State, education was free from primary to secondary schools. Abia State University was well funded by him with students paying below N10,000. Today, ABSU is in shambles and teachers are not paid. During his era, teachers including other civil servants were well taken care of, including timely payment of their salaries, allowances and gratuities. He even paid thirteenth month salary back then.
“He also built and funded health centres where drugs were given out to Abians for free of charge. He built Abia State University Teaching Hospital with world class facilities, go there today, you will weep for yourself. Kalu is a thorough leader with outstanding qualities. He built roads across the three Senatorial District without discriminating any zone. He invested so much in agriculture thereby providing food security for Abians even when President Olusegun Obasanjo tried to make life difficult for him.
“Today he is doing the same thing as the Senator repressing Abia North Senatorial District; Performance is in his DNA,” he said.
He appealed to the people of Abia North Senatorial District to continue to support the Chief Whip of the Senate, noting that Kalu was ready to do more for the district if reelected in 2023.
“We must unite and reelect Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, because we cannot afford to go backward to the era of zero project. Abia-North:Orji Kalu completes Lekwesi road, escalates works on Atani, Eluama, fifteen others
As the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu intensifies his rural development drive within rural areas in his zone, the 600 meters Lekwesi Umuchieze Amaoji road located in Umunneochi local government area has just been completed.
The road, already completed and delivered with drainage and Asphalt has been described by the community dwellers as the best dividend of democracy they’ve ever received in its entire history.
An elated resident who pleaded anonymity who undertook a personal inspection of the newly completed infrastructural facility said that the community were indeed extremely joyful over the development.
Speaking behind the camera while recording footage of the road the resident said that Kalu who is also the Senate Chief Whip has been impactful to their community throughout his tenure at the Senate.
He commended the quality of the road ;”The road which is now completed is in healthy condition, the community are extremely happy about the road constructed by this amiable Senator and they owe him all he needs to return him to the Senate come 2023. You can see that the road is as good as you can think of it. All thanks to our Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu.
In similar vein Kalu has also escalated the construction of the first ever tarred road in Atani-Abam community situated in Arochukwu Local Government Area which has currently attained its Asphalt coating stage.
In an amateur video obtained by the SUN made by Kalu Ayu a prominent Youth leader in Arochukwu L.G.A, the construction of the 3km road has reached its advanced stage following the construction of drainages, preparation of sub base and the application of laterite.
Speaking behind the footage, Kalu disclosed that the road project has Thrilled residents of the community, stating that they have resolved to re-elect Orji Kalu back to the Senate in appreciation for his good deeds to those communities.
Kalu said that road is the first ever tarred road in the history of the community; “This is the 3km road that Orji Kalu is building for the people of Atani Abam . The road starts from Ndi Oji down to Atani Abam.
“They have completed the drainage 100% and you can see it is strong and solid. They have applied laterite what is happening now is adding stone base as you can see work is still going on massively.
“Right now you see the grader coming , spreading the stone base in preparation for the Asphalt. This is how the work is going every day to see that the job is completed before Christmas day. Right from the beginning we have never seen a tarred road in our lives in this community but this one has been given to us from Senator Kalu and we are very grateful.
Weeks ago some of construction commenced for numerous roads located in Umunneochi, Isuikwuato and Arochukwu L.G.As as captured in the 2022 Appropriation.
At Isuikwuato the SUN confirmed that Kalu had completed the construction of four roads and facilitated the construction of additional nine as indicated in the 2022 budget.
Currently the construction of the Umuobiala rural road, Eluama is ongoing while construction of some other roads has also commenced they include; ” Construction of Isuikwuato township road; Construction of Uturu Township Road, isuikwuato;Construction of Ukwunwangwu/Akpukpa/Ndudu rural road;Construction of Eke/Omoeme/Eme Amaezigba Road (prof. Ernest Ojukwu) road, Ahaba Imenyi, isuikwuato;Construction of a rural road at Acha Isuikwuato;Construction of Ekebe College road, Isuamawu Community (HRM Eze Dr.Christopher Aboh) road;Construction of Umuobiala rural road, Eluama; Construction of Nvuru Bridge, Uturu township and Construction of Eke/Omoeme/Amaezigba rural road, Ahana Imenyi.
Construction of roads facilitated for Umunneochi LGA has also reached advanced stage they include ; the Ogwumabiri Obinolu Ngodo Isuochi road; Obinihu – Agbor Fada Road , Nnaeato and three other roads all in Umunneochi LGA.
Asides the construction of schools, health centers and the provision of motorised pipe borne water for communities, the Senate Chief in over three and half years facilitated the construction of over sixty roads spread across rural communities in Abia North.

In Less Than Four Years, Orji Kalu Has Attracted 60 Roads, Are You In Same Senate With Him, Okafor Queries Abaribe
Mr. Theophilus Okafor has sought explanation from the Senator representing Abia South, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe on what he has done in the past 16 years in the Senate, wondering if it is the same Senate Orji Kalu (Abia North) has been in the last four years.
He said Sen. Kalu has been able to attract about 60 roads in the past four years, wondering what Abaribe has done in his 16 years as a Senator.
Okafor in an article said, “He has nothing to show in his senatorial district for the 16 long years he spent in the Senate. Recently, a businessman at Ariaria Market in Aba, Hillary Nduka, asked a reporter in Igbere, in Abia North Senatorial District, if it was the same Senate that Abaribe and Kalu have been.
“He said he could not understand how Abaribe failed to return anything to his constituency, while Orji Kalu has done over 60 roads in just four years.
“Speaking shortly after he saw a road inaugurated by Kalu in Abia North, the trader said: “My brother, please, are Abaribe and Kalu in the same Senate? Or is Abaribe at the section where they only talk without doing anything? I mean, can you compare him with what Kalu or Senator Ike Ekweremadu have done in their zones? Why are we this unlucky in Abia South?”
“In fact, in Abia South, it is a known fact that Abaribe now goes about blaming the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari for his failure to accomplish anything meaningful. But that is contrary to the facts on the ground”.
He quoted a constituent of accusing Abaribe of not doing enough to ensure that the federal roads in his constituency, including Aba-Ikot Ekpene federal highway, Aba-Port Harcourt federal highway and many others are fixed, including the road to his house
“His constituents said that for the critical period he was their senator, it was PDP that led at the centre, yet, Abaribe could not deliver a single project to his people” he said.
He further accused Sen. Abaribe of sleeping in the Senate till he became the minority leader, an office he used in making political capital with the bail of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
He added, “Indeed, in the first 12 years, Abaribe was at the Senate, he was literally sleeping until PDP made him the minority leader. That was when he found his voice, especially when the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) became strong in the South East. He moved to secure bail for the leader of the group, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and made a political gain of it as the champion of the Igbo cause.
“We challenge him to show what he did on the floor of the Senate to better the lives of his people. Everything about Senator Abaribe is deceitful, including his public claim of signing a bail bond for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” a party leader said.”

Sen Orji Kalu embarks on massive renovation of schools in Abia North
In a bid to ensure that pupils in his constituency study in a conducive environment, the Senator representing Abia North senatorial district, Orji Uzor Kalu has embarked on massive reconstruction and renovation of primary schools in his constituency.
The lawmaker is also providing boreholes to enable his constituents have access to potable water.
The lawmaker who is also the Chief Whip of the Senate, said he was committed to delivering more democratic dividends to his constituents.
He insisted that investment in education should be a priority project of any good government.
Our correspondent reports that some of the schools include Aggrey Primary School Ibom in Arochukwu LGA, Eziama Central School, Nneato in Umunneochi LGA, Ahaba Imenyi Community School in Bende LGA and Ugwuafia Primary School Akanu Ohafia among others.
Reacting to Senator Kalu’s giant strides in the education sector, Glory Oty, a constituent from Umunneochi LGA said: “Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has always been a true and compassionate leader who loves and values education. When he was a state governor, because of his love for education, OUK drastically subsidized school fees to N35,000 for students in Abia State University. He was passionate about enabling schools to become better places for students to learn and for teachers to work. He arithmetically increased subventions to the Abia State University, Uturu, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, and the College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu.
“The same could be said of infrastructure and other facilities that enhanced cognitive capacity in the citadels of learning. The rehabilitation of primary and secondary schools by his administration shows him as a transformational leader and change agent who had great dreams of what public education could be. It is also pertinent to state here that all through tenures of Dr. Kalu as executive governor, there was no single industrial action by workers in the state because of the harmony that existed between the workers and government (OUK).
” The only time workers embarked on strike was when the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on a national strike. Academic activities were never interrupted in any of the tertiary institutions in our state throughout the duration of our government, making the students to graduate when they should. All these were made possible because Orji Uzor Kalu went to Abia State University and negotiated a deal with the state’s chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and they told him they would join their colleagues to commence the action and would back out after two days. And they kept to their words. This is exactly why he told the present Federa Government to keep the agreement they had with ASSU so as to call off the srike for the sake of Nigrian students.
“Do you also know that Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK), the philanthropist, owns a foundation that provided and still provides scholarships for undergraduates? Till date, I mean as I am talking to you, Dr. Kalu still gives scholarship to many students. I can categorically say that there are many people under education scholarship from Orji Uzor kalu Foundation from primary education to the university level.
“This is what OUK did in education as a governor which made him stood out among the Southeast governors in his time.”
Following the incessant crisis in Ohafia communities between the military and our youths which has led to the loss of lives on both sides and the destruction of property majorly belonging to our people, I am appealing to our youths to sheath their swords.
I understand that one way or the other there must have been some level of provocation which the result is the challenge we are facing today. Therefore,I’m pleading not as a political leader but as one of you that we all should give peace a chance.
I know what we all want and desire is peace, development, and security of our people and I can assure you all that I have already started making every necessary move to restore lasting peace, ensure the release of those arrested as well and make sure none of our people suffers any form of victimization or harassment from the security agents by tackling the cause of this crisis but first we need to give peace a chance for the good and benefit of us all.

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the opportunity for Nigerians to elect better candidates will present itself again. And more than ever, given the true realities of our social and political settings, the need arises for us as a community for conscious people to make that decision to give our mandate to individuals who are committed to and given to positive changes.
For the people of Abia North Senatorial District, there’s no better time than this for them to make that conscious decision, one that will see them take that giant leap to consolidate on their democratic gains.
While it is the desire of several other communities to have a lawmaker who will provide them with the much-needed dividends of a good democratic experience, for them, it has been an amazing ride. The last few years have seen them enjoy, under the representation of Senator Uzor-Kalu, the much-wanted incentives wished for in a democratic process.
The ever-amiable Senator Kalu came with one single purpose, and that was to drive even growth and development for the people. To harness their commonwealth for the greater good of all, upon the inception of his senatorial representation, he was not a new face to the people; he had earlier served as the governor of the state, and this opportunity had afforded him the opportunity to have a clear understanding of what his people at the senatorial level needed.
While the people gave him their votes based on his trajectory and antecedents, which have seen him etch his name as a true progressive, he went ahead to justify the votes bequeathed to him.
His manifesto was people-oriented and true to the beauty of our Electoral College political system, he delivered to the admiration of the majority.
The former governor of Abia State and first-term senator has, within three and a half years, facilitated the construction of over 120 roads. Around 59 school buildings have also been constructed in Abia North Senatorial District.
Some of them include construction of a 1 km rural road with drainage and asphalt from Ututu to Isu in Arochukwu LGA, Abia North Senatorial District, N90m; construction of a 2 km rural road with drainage and asphalt in Itumbuzo, Bende LGA, Abia North Senatorial District, N180m; construction of a 1 km-rural road with drainage and asphalt from Apanu to Akanu in Item, Bende LGA, Abia North Senatorial District, N180m; and construction of a 2 km rural road with drainage and asphalt in Amankalu Alayi, Uzo Rubber, in Amaokwe, N90m.
Others are construction of a 2-km rural road with drainage and asphalt from Abia to Akanu Ukwu in Ohafia LGA, Abia North Senatorial District, N180m; construction of a 1 km rural road with drainage and asphalt in Isiugwu, Ohafia LGA, Abia North Senatorial District, N90m; construction of a 2 km rural road with drainage and asphalt in Uturu Township in Isuikwuato LGA, Abia North Senatorial District, N90m; among others.
Also, Senator Kalu has facilitated the donation of various projects that were aimed at raising the standards of living for his people.
Among them are: the construction of a students’ hostel in Holy Rosary Secondary School, Umuahia, N50 million; the supply of motorcycles, sewing machines, and generating sets for Bende LGA, Abia North Senatorial District, N100 million; Ohafia LGA, Abia North Senatorial District, N100 million; Arochukwu LGA, Abia North Senatorial District, N100 million; also worthy to note is the fact that he has donated hundreds of books to students in the Senatorial District.
Also, Senator Kalu has deeply invested in the business of law-making and nation-building, as this is evident in the bills he has sponsored and co-sponsored, as well as the numerous motions he has moved or co-sponsored.
His scorecard so far has shown ability and dexterity in lawmaking, legislative advocacy, and building bipartisan alliances.

He comes again seeking the support of the people in the fourth coming senatorial election in the Senatorial District; the records bear testament to his good deeds, and he is set to fulfill more.

Mao Ohuabunwa is desperate, afraid of losing, jealous of Orji Kalu’s achievements, says Abia group
A socio-political group, Abia North Peace Foundation (ANPF) says a former Senator representing Abia North senatorial district, Mao Ohuabunwa is afraid of losing the 2023 Abia North senatorial district’ election to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for the second time, hence his desperation to play politics with human lives.
The group in a statement titled ” Ohuabunwa jealous of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s achievements” and signed by its Director General, Chief Nnanna Ukaegbu on Friday evening accused Ohuabunwa of desperation and irresponsible politicking.
Reacting to a statement credited to Ohuabunwa where he accused Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of being silent to the security situation in Abia North, the group said Ohuabunwa has finally lost the plot to play politics with human lives and he is now grabbing at straws to shield the obvious defeat awaiting him.
“We really do not want to respond to the infantile tantrum of Ohuabunwa, as it is now becoming obvious to the good people of Abia North, especially the voting public, that Ohuabunwa has finally lost the plot to play politics with human lives, and he is now grabbing at straws to shield the defeat awaiting him.
“How else does one respond to Ohuabunwa’s statement laced with immature reasoning, lies, childish innuendos and thoughts? No wonder Senator Ohuabunwa had been trending on monumental failures especially his infamous frying pan sharing empowerment.
“Only a failed politician like Ohuabunwa would jump council chairmen, House of Assembly members, deputy governor and the state governor who is the chief security officer of the state, simply because they are his party members to blame Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. Ohuabunwa cannot be taken seriously until he challenges the PDP-led government in Abia state to tackle the issue of insecurity like Governors Ortom, Yahaya Bello, Wike and others are doing in their respective states.
“Recently, a community leader from Arochukwu LGA, Chief Nkemdirim Ijoma had accused Mao Ohuabunwa of being behind the insecurity in Abia North senatorial district. Chief Nkemdirim, Ohuabunwa’s kinsman also accused him of importing political thugs, hoodlums, drug addicts, militants and kidnappers into Abia North senatorial district.
He also accused Ohuabunwa’s thugs of unleashing mayhem across Abia North Senatorial District, warning him not to set the state on fire in his desperation to return to the Senate in 2023.
“Those hoodlums he imported are busy destroying posters of his opponents in Ohafia, Isikwuato, Umunneochi and its environs. They destroyed billboards of High Chief Ikechi Emenike of APC , Dr Oreh Okuji of APGA, Sen Orji Uzor Kalu of APC and so many others at Old Soldier junction, Amaekpu, Ebem and Elu Ohafia.
“George Onwumere Uloh popularly known as Amani, a known cultist and arm robber working for Ohuabunwa was caught on tape saying there won’t be peace in Abia North senatorial district.
In the audio, Uloh was heard vowing to make life difficult for those against Ohuabunwa in Abia North senatorial district. He threatened to cut off hands of political opponents; he even announced that he has over 600 boys working for him.
“Ohuabunwa and his team have graduated from playing politics with human lives to blatant disregard to the people of Abia North senatorial district by constantly trying to use propaganda to get their sympathy. We are not surprised by Ohuabunwa’s desperation, cheap blackmail in the name of irresponsible politicking simply because he is afraid of losing again in 2023.
“Ohuabunwa, embarrassed by the runway success of Orji Uzor Kalu, has since embarked on a wicked scheme to create disaffection among the people of Abia North senatorial district through fruitless propaganda.
“Ohuabunwa should know that Distinguished Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is not his class politically and otherwise. He is very busy with the task and mandate given to him by the good people of Abia North senatorial district.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is busy renovating schools in his community, and other Abia North communities, constructing rural roads and renovating schools and empowering our youths with scholarships to study medicine and surgery which Ohuabunwa could not do except sharing of frying pans to Abia North women.
“Ohuabunwa is simply desperate and afraid of losing the senatorial election like he did in 2019 when he was overwhelmingly humiliated and rejected by all, including his party members.”
