2015 Election: T.A Orji Blasts Goodluck Jonathan For Calling Him A Betrayer

T.A Orji blasts Goodluck Jonathan

The immediate governor of Abia State, now Senator represents Abia North-Central, Chief Theodore Ahamefula Orji, has lambasted the former President Goodluck Jonathan for calling him a betrayer over 2015 general election.

Recall that Senator Orji was then a strong ally to former President Jonathan, even as he promised to deliver his state to Jonathan during the presidential election, which it finally turns out that Chief Orji couldn’t even delivered his own ward to Goodluck Jonathan as the election was conducted.

Following his failure to win the 2015 presidential election, the former president who is saddened as those whom he trust betrayed him, has called them betrayals, adding that despite how he helped them, they turned out to back stabbed him.

Angered by Jonathan’s statement, Senator Orji in a statement, called Jonathan a greedy human being who allowed his wife to speak for him even when he know fully well that his wife can’t do it better.

Orji said; “your greed made you to lose the 2015 general elections to our dear president Muhammadu Buhari. You know your wife is not doing well and yet you allowed her to take care of some drastic discussion so how were you expecting me to deliver you for president and leave out my senatorial ambitions.

I repeat your greed made you to lose the 2015 general election, can’t you see that you have made yourself a laughing stock in our party? Last time our chairman walked out on you after shunning you in public, honestly, you have lost all respect Mr former president and I must commend Mu’azu that the masses voted you out.

Senator Theodore Orji, Former Abia State Governor Rejected By APC

APC Rejects Senator Theodore Orji, Former Abia Governor

Former Abia State House of Assembly Speaker and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Stanley Ohajiriuka, has warned former governor, Chief Theodore Amaefula Orji against joining the ruling party.

He called on the former governor, who is the senator representing Abia North Central District, against defecting to the APC.

Speaking with newsmen after Abia State APC caucus meeting in Umuahia, Ohajiriuka stated that Senator Orji’s governance style while serving as Abia State governor was largely due to his leverage on the former president, Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience and any that attempt to join the ruling party would amount to betrayal.

According to him, “It will be heartbreaking to the former President and his wife to see Orji abandon a party that stood in for him when he was unleashing terror on Abians and owing salaries of civil servants.

“While more politicians from this state are expected in no distant time to formally join the APC, we are against people like Senator T. A Orji abandoning his party to also join the moving train.

“We are not ignorant of the role former president Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Mrs Patience Jonathan played in his governance. It will therefore, be costly and demeaning of him to even nurse such intention.

“If he still has conscience, he should remain in the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. A party that his likes used to show Abia an example of what a leader should not be.”

Speaking on the plans of Abia APC in the next general election, he said, “Abia State has suffered so much in the hands of those who can’t get a handful of votes without manipulating the results.

“This time around, such things will no longer be seen nor heard among us. We are reinforcing and if you look at the calibre of people that attended today’s caucus meeting. You will agree with me that the PDP will soon be sent packing .”

Ogah vs Ikpeazu: When Judiciary Abandoned Own Decisions…- By Remijus Ohajika

The issues for determination vide the originating summons were for the interpretation of Article 14a, Part IV of PDP Electoral Guideline for Primary Election 2014, Sections 87 (4), and 31 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) and for a declaration in the light of whether or not there is any false information contained in the documents submitted to INEC by Dr Okezie Ikpeazu before the PDP primaries for gubernatorial election in Abia State
Excerpts:

“ …the originating summons procedure should be used only where a deed, a will, enactment, written instrument are to be interpreted by the courts; that is to say, where the court is merely to determine the construction of such provision submitted by the parties. The procedure is not to be used to interpret bits and pieces of facts committed to paper which can be disputed or which may need to be explained. The consequence of this resolution is that the originating summons be struck out as an incompetent mode of initiating the proceeding”.
-PER CORAM HON. JUSTICE H. M. OGUNWUMIJU, JCA (Court of Appeal) in APPEAL NO.: CA/A/390/2016 IN DR OKEZIE VICTOR IKPEAZU V DR UCHECHUKWU SAMPSON OGAH & 3 ORS.

Whereas in her earlier decision in CHRISTIAN ADABAH ABAH & ANOR VS HON. HASSAN ANTHONY SALEH & ANOR in appeal No.: CA/A/279/2015 delivered on 8THFEBRUARY 2015 on the same interpretation of Section 31 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) pertaining to false information submitted by a candidate to INEC in FORM 001, Court of Appeal held that the originating summons was proper as the originating procedure

QUESTIONS FOR DETERMINATION:

IS COURT OF APPEAL NO MORE BOUND BY THEIR PREVIOUS DECISION ON SAME ISSUE OF SIMILAR FACTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES AND LAW?
IS COURT OF APPEAL NOW ALLOWED TO SUMMERSAULT?

“…where a candidate is alleged to provide false information in FORM CF001 submitted to INEC and which is being challenged,….. the burden or onus is on the candidate to prove that his information was genuine and not false. All he needs to show and establish is that the documents he formulated and represented to the commission (INEC) are genuine and not false.” (emphasis is mine). Supreme Court Per MUNTAKA-COMMASSIE, JSC in Ekagbara v. Ikpeazu (2016) 4 NWLR PT 1503 at page 411.
Suprisingly and Strangely too, HON. JUSTICE H. M. OGUNWUMIJU, JCA (Court of Appeal) in APPEAL NO.: CA/A/390/2016 held otherwise by saying:
“In Ekeagbara v Ikpeazu (2016) 4 NWLR PT 1503 at page 411, the Supreme Court held that the burden of proof is on the candidate to prove that his information was genuine, not false. However, the very wording of Section 31 (5) of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) shows that it is the person making an allegation of falsehood that must prove it”- ”.-Hon. Justice H. M. Ogunwumiju, JCA (Court of Appeal) in APPEAL NO.: CA/A/390/2016 IN DR OKEZIE VICTOR IKPEAZU V DR UCHECHUKWU SAMPSON OGAH & 3 ORS

QUESTIONS FOR DETERMINATION:
WHERE IS THE STARE DECISIS PRINCIPLE THAT SAYS THAT A LOWER COURT IS BOUND BY THE DECISION OF A HIGHER COURT REGARDING A PRINCIPLE OF LAW? IS COURT OF APPEAL NOW A SUPERIOR COURT TO THE SUPREME COURT

“…Throughout the enthusiastic analysis of the supposed false information on the tax documents, the learned trial Judge was unwilling to consider the explanation in the counter-affidavit sworn to by Mr Okoji the tax officer who signed the Tax Clearance Certificate. That tantamount to saying that the court cannot allow amendment to pleadings that would rebut evidence led by the adverse party because that evidence should have been in the original pleadings.
That cannot be fair hearing. It can only be fair hearing if the evidence is considered and weighed with other contrary evidence and found insufficient to convince the judex. An outright rejection of the evidence of the adverse party in this case because it should have been submitted with the Form 001 is perverse and unjust”.- HON. JUSTICE H. M. OGUNWUMIJU, JCA (COURT OF APPEAL) IN APPEAL NO.: CA/A/390/2016 IN DR OKEZIE VICTOR IKPEAZU V DR UCHECHUKWU SAMPSON OGAH & 3 ORS.

“…the 2nd Defendant (Dr Okezie Ikpeazu) tax receipt for 2011 ought to have been first in time before the serial number of his tax receipt for 2012 and 2013. However, in this case, it is the serial numbers of the 2ndDefendant’s tax receipt for 2012 and 2013 that came first. The 2nd Defendant claimed in his defence that exhibit OK6 (2011 tax receipt) was issued in error and that explained why his exhibit OK6 was later in time. The fact of the 2nd Defendant’s explanation here is an admission against interest that indeed the earlier 2011 tax receipt contains false information. If indeed the 2ndDefendant’s 2011 tax receipt was issued in error and known to him, he ought to have explained this (via further affidavit) to INEC when Form 001 with attached documents were returned to INEC on 26thDecember 2014. The court is only bound to examine documents attached to Form 001 and forwarded to INEC to see if they contain false information.
Therefore, the defence of the 2nd Defendant on this issue has not discharged the burden placed on him by the Supreme Court in Ekeagbara vs Ikpeazu to prove that the documents he submitted to INEC do not contain false information”.-Per Justice Okon Abang (Federal High Court) in Suit No.: FHC/ABJ/CS/71/2016 in Dr Uche Ogah vs Dr Okezie Ikpeazu

QUESTIONS FOR DETERMINATION:
i. Is it not a settled principle of law that an error or mistake in an affidavit by a particular deponent can only be corrected if re-sworn by the same deponent (Dr Okezie Ikpeazu) and not by another person (Mr James Okoji) before a Commissioner of Oath?

ii.      Under the provisions of Section 31 Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended), is it not the fact, documents and information submitted to INEC at the time of the submission that remain and cannot admit alteration to prove the correctness of the truth therein except by another affidavit by the same deponent and any explanation by a third party which is not part of the initial facts, information and documents initially submitted to INEC will not hold?

iii. Between Justice H. M. Ogunwumiju of the Court of Appeal and Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, who stood the law on its head?

#ABIA: IS THERE NO END TO EXECUTIVE LIES/DECEIT?

Part of their Press Release reads…
“Gov Ikpeazu yesterday, hosted a delegation of Chinese investors who arrived Nigeria to deepen the investment discussion commenced in China. The team included investors in ceramics, pharmaceuticals, real estate, market development etc”

************************

Come oooo, I thought they said last week that Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu has sealed and secured $1.5Billion investment deal with a Chinese firm while in China to build a shoe factory in Aba, Abia state?

Why now hosting a delegation of Chinese investors to deepen investment
*Discussion* Commenced  in China that will invest in ceramics, pharmaceuticals, real estate, market development etc when you have told the whole world that you have already secured $1.5Billion deal and that the company will be coming to commence work at site?.

Where is the $1.5Billion shoe factory and why is it not mentioned in the press release?

Why this James Bond approach or do you think that the apex court will take this monumental deceit into cognizance in your falsification, presentation of false information and lying under oath case before them?…
Oga governor wise up….

Your Excellency, you and your political merchant handlers can only hoodwink the gullible and NOT our highly respected eminent juries of the Supreme Court.

If you like go and assemble street urchins and mercenaries in China and nick name them multibillion dollars investors, it will make no single meaning to your case of falsification, hence the sanctity of our constitution must be respected and justice served to you by sacking you as a deterrent to others who may wish to tour your path.

#No more dollar for judgement, our judges are wiser now.

Magu Decries Corruption Rate In Africa

Ibrahim Magu, Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has decried and described as endemic the rate of corruption, tax evasion, money laundering and illicit financial flows within the African sub-region.

He expressed this concern on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 while making a remark at the opening ceremony of a three-day international tax conference and capacity building workshop on the use of beneficial ownership information and recovery of assets in Africa holding at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

The conference with the topic, “Nigeria leads the fight against money laundering, bribery, corruption and tax evasion” was jointly organized by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU, and the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Bank Group (WG).

It is a multi-stakeholders initiative on Tax and Good Governance designed to provide a platform for exchange of views regarding the importance of beneficial ownership information in detecting, tracking and preventing money laundering, tax evasion, corruption and other types of illicit financial flows. It also examines processes and procedures for the recovery of assets, its role in curbing illicit financial flows and how existing practices can be made more effective and efficient.

The EFCC boss described the conference as ‘timely and key’ as it supports the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to recover assets.

According to him, “the government of Nigeria is taking the bull by the horn by initiating policies, that have enhanced the fight against corruption in Nigeria and tremendous efforts are being made to enhance international cooperation to recover our stolen assets”.

He urged all stakeholders to key into the change agenda of the present government with the mantra “kill corruption before corruption kills us”.

Earlier, the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, who was represented by Director, Technical Services, Larai Shuaibu, expressed concern over the alarming rate of corruption in Africa adding that, an estimated $50billion is being loss every year through illicit financial flows.

She urged participants to continue to work in line with the initiative in order to root out every form of corruption in the economic and financial sector.

Also speaking, Tunde Fowler, Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, said the potential of Africa in terms of revenue generation in comparison to the US tax rates were much lower.

He added that, “the only way to get Africa out of the present economic situation is to review the conditions and follow strict compliance”.

In his brief remark, Jeffrey Owens, Project Co-Director, Tax and Good Governance Project, urged the participants to discuss freely on the burning topics noting that about 110 people from various agencies in 20 countries are participating in the conference and capacity building workshop.

He hoped that the road map would open another chapter in strengthening the existing relationship between the various agencies.

Ndigbo, The Architects Of Their Problem – Dr. Orji Kalu

Ndigbo Architect Of Their Problem – Orji Kalu

A former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu has declared that Igbos are the real architect of their problems.

According to Kalu, Igbos don’t know how to play politics, hence their inability to rule the nation.

Kalu made this statement at his Igbere country home in Abia State when a socio-cultural Igbo group, Ogbako Igbo paid him a courtesy visit.

He regretted that lack of love and unity, coupled with the fact that Igbo leaders were not good politicians, had made them not to speak with voice on matters of national importance that would be beneficial to their people.

“Igbo political leaders are not good politicians. Politics is all about give and take, and the Igbo should wake up politically if they should overcome their problems.

“I laugh when people advocate for an Igbo regional political party; it may not be possible in this generation again. I formed PPA and it had two states, where are they now? And no Igbo has asked what happened.

“Igbo are the architect of their own problem; the leaders should look back and find out what went wrong with the region, politically, if we are to make any headway”, he stated.

Kalu said he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) because he had been in the opposition for the past 10 years and the Igbo did not benefit from that.

Among members of the group who visited Kalu include, Prof Konna Anosike, Dr. Obinna Duruji, Rev Fr. Kelechi Hermagualad, Dr. Fabian Ihekweaba, Everest Ezihe, Gele Agbai and Ejimonyeabala Williams of the USA chapter.

Aba Waterside Accident, We Are Doing Our Selves Great Harm…. By Ferdinand Ekeoma

The death of some innocent Nigerians at the Waterside Axis of Ogbor Hill Aba, Abia State about two days ago  is not only a sad and heartbreaking tragedy, but one that puts to question the importance a black man attaches to the lives of his fellow human beings.

It is no longer news that the accident which was said to have claimed up to 12 lives instantly was caused by  touts working as government revenue agents, who were dragging steering with the driver of a heavy duty truck, forcing the driver to lose control of the truck which finally smashed some tricycle operators and other passers by to death.

The gory pictures that came out of the accident scene are so heart wrenching, that its display on  this media platform could amount to hurting seriously those who knew the victims personally, but the truth is that these innocent citizens died this painful and undeserved deaths, because we are in a society where money is the ultimate, and life, no matter how precious enjoys secondary considerations.

It is good that the governor of Abia State in company of some government officials visited the accident scene, and probably the hospital where some survivals were taken to, but such a visit cannot bring back the dead to life and cannot fill the vacuum which these deaths are going to create in the different families of the victims, rather what can assuage the anger, pains and sorrow boiling in the hearts of the living is decisive but a lasting action against those despicable souls whose direct actions caused the deaths.

Both as an individual and as a member of the opposition in Abia, I have consistently got involved in calling on government to halt the activities of many loose criminals polluting the streets of Aba and Umuahia in the name of revenue collection, because of the obvious harm they are doing to both the economy of the State and the lives of the people. I am sure this avoidable tragedy wouldn’t have befallen the victims and their families if government had considered the sensitivity and importance of such an appeal.

I am sad,  very sad because, I,  you,  our relations and loved ones could have been victims of such cheap, painful but avoidable death, caused by miscreants who ordinarily should have nothing to do with government revenue collection in a saner clime.

Now that these precious lives have been cut short, will government be provoked to roll out an effective strategy aimed at arresting permanently the nuisance of the revenue touts?

Or are we going to allow these criminals to perpetually enjoy their slave masters reign in our own state?

Tomorrow is very pregnant and no one knows what it’s going to deliver, so we should not wait to be directly affected by such a monumental tragedy before we speak out or do the needful.

MAGU: SOCIETY NOW REWARDS THIEVES, TREASURY LOOTERS WITH CHIEFTAINCY TITLES

Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has lamented the situation where treasury looters get rewarded with positions of authority and chieftaincy titles.

Speaking at the 2017 Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) week/award day, Magu said values such as hard work and integrity were no more regarded.

“The moral values of honesty, integrity and hard work, has been overtaken by greed and crass materialism,” said Magu, who was represented by A. Bello.

He noted that this was evident in the fact that the society “now recognizes thieves and looters of the common treasury, by rewarding them with chieftaincy titles and other high positions of authority”.

Magu said there’s an urgent need “to go through the process of reorientation and regeneration” so as to free the country from the shackles of corruption.

He added that “the process must start from our homes”.

The anti-graft czar also revealed that the EFCC has recovered “N521,815,000.00, $53,272 747.00, £122,890.00, and €547,730.00″ since the federal government’s whistle-blower policy commenced in December 2016.

“Apart from several other recoveries running into several billions of naira, the recent whistle blower policy, has led to the recovery by EFCC of N521,815,000.00, $53,272 747.00, £122,890.00, and €547,730.00,” he said.

He also said that the EFCC recorded 62 convictions in the first quarter of 2017.

Magu urged players in Nigeria’s financial sector, to ensure that they play an active role in the war against corruption, by reporting any suspicious transactions to the agency.

IKPEAZU: EXPOSE A KIDNAPPER AND GET ONE MILLION NAIRA.

EXPOSE A KIDNAPPER AND GET ONE MILLION NAIRA, SAYS GOV IKPEAZU

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has promised a reward of One Million Naira for anyone who provides useful information that will lead to the arrest of anyone involved in kidnap activities anywhere in the State.

The Governor also promised to reward any police officer or any police team that successfully tracks down any kidnapper with One Million Naira.

The Governor made these pledges while addressing a Press Conference at Government House Umuahia this on Monday. He expressed concern at the resurgence of the activities of kidnappers in Aba and vowed to collaborate with security agencies to tackle this menace head on. He further pledged to provide the security operatives with all institutional support available to the government to equip them to fight these kidnappers and assured the people that government will not stand by and watch any part of the state overrun by hoodlums and criminals.

The Governor also expressed his deep concerns about the last accident at the Ogbor Hill bridge which reportedly happened as a result of the activities of some revenue collecting agents.
Governor Ikpeazu made it clear that he considers the life of every Abian more valuable than revenue and stated that if it means banning the collection of flying revenue to preserve the lives of our people, government will not hesitate to do it.

Our Mumu Don Do’- The Manchester 1945 Conference & 4 Things Said At The Abuja Nigeria Youth Forum Conference… By Bayo Adeyinka

History was made in Abuja last Saturday. There were two major events that happened which I predict will have a very far-reaching impact on the destiny of Nigeria. The first was the National Conference of the Young Leaders Association of Nigeria a.k.a Nigeria Youth Forum which took place at Bolingo Hotel and Towers and the second was the National Convention of Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party which took place at the Shehu Musa Yaradua Convention Centre. I was invited as one of the Guest Speakers at the YLAN event.

I was impressed by the organizational skills of the YLAN team. Delegates came from all the 36 states of Nigeria. A few flew in from other countries. The hall was almost packed full.

When I heard that all the delegates paid their way to the Abuja conference, I nodded my head in affirmation of the fact that the members were serious about the objectives. To show my support for the goals of the budding group, I had paid for my own ticket and hotel and did everything pro bono. That was the least I could do.

When I took the podium, I told the audience that the conference reminded me about the Manchester Pan-African Congress which took place in 1945. 90 delegates including 26 Africans gathered in a small hotel room to discuss about Africa’s future. Present at the Manchester Conference were Obafemi Awolowo, Kwame Nkrumah, Jomo Kenyatta, Hastings Banda, Peter Abrahams, Jaja Wachukwu, the widow of Marcus Garvey and others.

At the time of the Manchester Conference, Awolowo was 36. Kwame Nkrumah was 36. Jaja Wachukwu was 27. Hastings Banda was 47. Jomo Kenyatta was one of the oldest at 54. During the conference, something was ignited in the hearts of the attendees.
Subsequently, a fire of revolution spread across Africa with nations granted independence from colonialism. In less than 15 years after the conference, Jomo Kenyatta became President of Kenya. Hastings ‘Kamuzu’ Banda became President of Malawi. Kwame Nkrumah became the President of Ghana. Obafemi Awolowo became the Premier of Western Region and later Opposition Leader in Nigeria.

Jaja Nwachukwu became the first Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria and its first Minister of Foreign Affairs. I told the audience that the impact of the meeting will be felt in Nigeria in a few years to come. There was an applause all over the hall.

I spoke about how the greatness of a nation lies in unleashing the potential of its youths. I gave several examples of young people who have shaped the destinies of their nations and the world: Mark Zuckerberg who was 19 when he started facebook, Africa’s youngest billionaire Ashish Thakkar who is 31- an escapee from the Rwandan genocide, Collin Thornton who made his millions by fixing bad computers and setting up Dial-a-Nerd at 35, Adam Horowitz, an 18-year-old entrepreneur who started 30 websites in 3 years before he became successful, Jason Njoku who at 33 founded Iroko TV and recently received an $8m investment into his company. I told the audience he didn’t just hang around waiting for Buhari to make something happen or blaming Jonathan for not making anything happen.

I also told the audience that the average Nigerian youth needs a brain reset. They need their minds to be restored to factory settings. The Nigerian youth needs mental detoxification. I told the audience that some youth even fight over politicians, looters and their oppressors when they should rather fight against them. It was an appreciative audience that burst into a rapturous applause when I said, “While others are carrying the destiny of their nations, you are carrying the bags of politicians”.

I now shared a story with the audience. It was my personal experience during the Governorship elections in 2015. I produced two jingles for a Governorship candidate and I was asked to hand them over to the State Vice-Chairman of the candidate’s party.

Together with a friend, we located the Vice-Chairman at a club house. He was seated in the company of another man- obviously his friend as they drank together. After playing both jingles, his friend who danced rigorously to both, suggested that the first jingle should be deployed for open-air campaigns while the second one should be for radio.

He disappeared into ‘the other room’ with a beau and as we sat with the Vice-Chairman, he told us that his friend is the Publicity Secretary of the opposing party. A gasp went through the audience after I dropped the bombshell. At this point, I exclaimed, ‘Our mumu don do’ to which the audience repeated several times with their fists clenched.

I shared the following as significant steps and roles that the youth must play for restoring Nigeria:

1. Understand that power is never served a la carte.
“Many of you have been complaining about the recycling of past leaders. You complain that young people are never given a chance. Power is grabbed. Power is not earned. It is not a right neither is it a privilege. It is not served on a silver or gold platter. You must struggle for it.
Drop that entitlement mentality. You need to pay the price for power to get it. It involves sacrifice and a lot of hard work.

It is time to force your way to relevance. It is time to take responsibility for the future because the future will not be inherited- it will be earned”.

2. Get angry

“By next year, there will be the first human head transplant by an Italian neurosurgeon but polio and Lassa fever has staged a comeback in this clime. By 2020, while others will be able to switch off their fat cells and eat anything they want without the fear of obesity while people die in Nigerian IDP camps because of malnutrition. Samsung will release foldable smartphones this year while your leaders grapple with production of pencils. This year, the robotic chef arm that can cook up to 2,000 recipes will be launched but in Nigeria we still source for cooks from Akwa Ibom and Cross River States”.

3. Do something

“Stop complaining and do something. Do something about electricity. Your brain is still fresh. As you ask questions, go further by seeking answers. Rather, be the answer. As you talk about the challenges, go further by seeking solutions. Rather, be the solution.
Does it not bother you that once you’re above 40 years, you have lesser years to spend as you arrive at the departure lounge of life?

Should you not be thinking about the future more than the present?

For instance, by 2050 Nigeria will hit the 1b population mark.

Thirty three years before 2050, we are still stuck in subsistence farming. We can’t feed 170m people now so how can we feed 1b people?

We can’t provide housing for 170m people now, so how can we provide housing for 1b people? While the rest of humanity is trying to land on Mars with 200,000 applicants vying for just 100 slots, we still find it difficult to run an airline”.

Find your niche. Faajihub was started when a cousin of Olaotan Oladitan, who’s one the founders, was coming in from the United Kingdom for her wedding. It was a challenge for her finding the people needed to make the event a success. Faajihub now has at least 700 vendors of different kinds.

Faajihub is solving the problem of choice in event management.
Brian Bett is a Kenyan agriculture techpreneur who designed a locally made greenhouse for the equivalent of N250,000. The cheapest greenhouse in Nigeria is about N1.5m. Brian is solving the hunger problem.

GoMyWay is a ride sharing service started by Damola Teidi, a model in her 20s. Damola is solving the transportation problem.
Hotels.ng was started by Mark Essien and has over 6,000 hotels on its portal. Mark is solving the hospitality problem.
PrepClass is an app by Olumide Ogunlana aimed at helping students prepare for exams.

The app assists you to identify your weak points apart from the core functionality of preparation for exams. Olumide is solving our educational problem.

Jobberman, one of the top jobs websites in Nigeria was started by the trio of Opeyemi Awoyemi, Ayodeji Adewunmi and Olalekan Olude in 2009 during the famed ASUU strike. Jobberman is tackling the employment challenge. What problems are you solving? Stop merely existing. It’s time to start living. Let your life be a contribution to humanity and not a contamination to humanity”.

4. You need a critical mass
“Organize rather than agonize. Don’t just think outside the box. Throw away the box. You have the numbers- use them to force a real change. What does it take to win an election: numbers! You can register a new political party. Or form a critical mass or pressure groups in an existing one.

Set up accountability groups across local governments and states. Participate actively in the political process. Identify some young outliers and rally round them so as to get them to political office”.

I reeled out a few statistics:

APC won Nassarawa with 392,000 votes- Nassarawa has a population of about 2m people
APC won Lagos State with 811,944 votes- Lagos has a population of close to 20m people.

APC – 327,310- Oyo State- Oyo has a population of about 6m people.
PDP – 289,867 – Ebonyi State- Ebonyi has a population of about 2.1m people
I zeroed in on Lagos as I considered the tertiary institutions alone outside of the clusters where one usually find the youth.

UNILAG has 49,192 students.
LASU has 90,000 students
Yabatech has 15,000 students
Lagos State Polytechnic is also an existing school but number of students cannot be ascertained. Ditto for Lagos City Polytechnic, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Nigerian Institute of Journalism and Federal College of Education Technical, Akoka.

I stated that if these numbers can be mobilized and come together as a critical mass, then we will be on the road to change. I said what is needed to win an election is numbers and that money is a subset of numbers.

I rounded off my speech by informing the audience that no Nigerian political party has students wings- even when they claim to have youth leaders who are in their 50s and 60s.

ANC was very successful because it had students/youth wings. Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and Julius Malema were former leaders of the ANC Youth League. I challenged the group to look at people who were turning 18 and coming of voting age. ‘Who is talking to them?’, I asked before leaving the stage.
I took a few pictures with some participants.

Sincere appreciation to the Founder and Convener of the Young Leaders Association of Nigeria, Mr  Ezekiel Temitope Oladimeji for inviting me as Guest Speaker at the event.
Bayo Adeyinka.

HOW WE YOUTHS CAN RESTORE NIGERIA. –  by Engr Emma Adimoha

INTRODUCTION:

To get a good grasp of this topic, it is instructive to have a working definition of what the concept youth means and who is actually a youth.

Youth, according to Wikipedia, is the time of life when one is young, but often means the time between childhood and adulthood (maturity). It is also defined as “the appearance, freshness, vigor, spirit, etc., characteristic of one who is young”.

However, United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO, “Youth” is best understood as a period of transition from the dependence of childhood to adulthood’s independence and awareness of our interdependence as members of a community.

Youth is a more fluid category than a fixed age-group. But, according to the definition given in the African Youth Charter “youth” means “every person between the ages of 15 and 40 years”.

PROBLEMS OF YOUTH IN NIGERIA

Since we know who a youth is, it would amount to putting the cart before the horse if we delve into how youths can restore without understanding the circumstances that an average Nigerian youth has to grapple with.

For the records again, about 25 per cent of Nigerian youths are unemployed either as skilled or unskilled workers. Also recall that youths make up to about 65 per cent of the Nigerian population.
Put differently, these numbers mean that insecurity in the country will be very high. It also means that crime rate will be very high.
Are you surprised that we have insurgents to contend with in the North east, dare devil armed robbers and militants in the West and kidnappers in both the West and South East especially Abia State. How about the south south?
Each region of the country is facing one issue or the other arising from youth employment. Also recall that FG is yet to contend with the militancy and oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region.

I will not belabour this honourable house with explaining other problems confronting today’s youth but lest we forget, peer group pressure influence, poverty, drug abuse, inadequate of lack of good home training and the of course the get quick rich syndrome that has permeated the nooks and crannies of our nation.

HOW WE CAN RESTORE NIGERIA

There are a thousand and one ways that the Nigerian youth can help restore Nigeria’s lost glory.  For a clearer comprehension of the subject under discourse, the role of the youths will be discussed in sectors.

Suffice it to say that ignorance is the biggest sin committed by the many 21st century Nigerian youths.

EDUCATION:

Whether in the hinterlands of Arochukwu, or in the metropolitan Aba, the role of a youth first is to understand that the future of a nation, his nation depends solely on him or her. If he is well motivated that the sky is his starting point. He will not just excel but he will stand among kings and queens. In so doing, he understands that he does not need to cut corners to achieve anything.
He understands that examination malpractice has no place in his inner being. He will work hard to achieve good grades, even though he has no sandals or engaged in hawking plantains or anything before or after school hours. Failure is not part of him.
The attitude of parents wanting to do everything for their wards including paying for malpractice and writing examinations ought to stop. The role of a youth is to be confident enough to tell his father and or his or her mother that they should trust him enough to do things for himself. If he or she fails, he should also be strong enough to take responsibility and see it as another opportunity to right the wrongs.

POLITICS:

The 21st century youth ought to be even more political aware and participate in political events. Gone are the days when youths are handed 1000 naira to vote for a particular godfather or candidate. No. Todays youth have to do better. Join a political party., Attend political awareness meetings. Be attentive. Ask questions where necessary. Monitor proceedings. Support a candidate based on your convictions not based on financial interests. Track budgets. Monitor projects and report your findings. Build a formidable structure at the local level. At the grass root level monitor the progress of your leaders. What are they doing? praise them when right and Criticise them constructively for the ones they are not doing  right, and OFFER SOLUTIONS.
Nigeria will not get better with people castigating government. Offer development solutions. Speak out for quality. Speak out for justice. Speak out for fairness. Hold government and government officials accountable. Ensure they are transparent in their dealings with people, for we must rise against corruption in all ramifications. In fighting for these causes the Nigerian youth will move farther in restoring not only the dignity of governance but the respect the country deserves also.

BUSINESS/ AND COMMERCE:

On the flipside, it beats my imagination how a very large chunk of the youth population is unemployed yet Nigeria is blessed with large land mass uncultivated.
Agriculture is the easiest means of getting quick and legitimate money for any youth. It gives the Nigerian youth an opportunity to have two or three sources of income. Youths must be patient to learn a trade or get busy by tilling the land. The returns on investments are plenty. It will reduce crime. It will also empower youths.

The multiplier effect is even much more because it will open up more opportunities for others in t he production chain. An idle mind, the Holy Bible says in Proverbs, is the devil’s work tool. Being gainfully employed will help restore Nigeria to her glorious days as youths will have to stand on their rights rather than expect peanuts from politicians who have corruptly enriched themselves.

RELIGION AND ETHNICISM:

In a multi religious nation such as ours, the Nigerian youth has only one thing to do in this line – to be more tolerant and understanding. Most ethno/religious crisis and bloodletting that has taken place in the country could be avoided if we are more understanding and tolerating.

Do not forget that the number of youths that participate in these crises far outnumber the number of pot bellied men and old men. If we treat each other with respect and understanding, separate religion from politics, the country’s development will come at a very fast pace.

Conclusively, it will be in the interest of the youths to work towards ensuring a better unified well Structured Nigeria as it will benefit all and generations to come. The present generation has little or nothing to gain from a Nigeria of today, owing to the way the system is structured.

We have misleaders who have also travelled to countries where things work and they have seen these things work, yet they won’t let things work here because they benefit from the rots they bring. It is up to you and I to say no to these people and ensure things work for us.

Let me use this opportunity to comment on our brothers from some of the northern states who have stoned their elected representatives for one thing or the other.

But it does not end there. You can start and pursue his recall from either the senate or the House of Representatives.
Only then will they sit up. And we too on our part must lead by the examples we desire, to make our living an inspiring one.

-THANK YOU-

WHAT IS THE IMPLICATION OF GOV. OKEZIE IKPEAZU’S CHINA BUSINESS TRIP?  By Emmanuel Maduka Nwazue

Away from the daily distractions we are subjected to by the federal government, I wish turn my attention to my state, Abia, over what I consider a frightening issue except of course, anyone comes up with a more convincing fact (than the one I am about to share) to allay my fears and by extension, those of other Abians.

The fear is on the implications of the recent business trip by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu to China, where he reached an agreement with a Chinese firm, Huajian Group, on the establishment of a shoe industry in Aba.

A statement released by the chief press secretary to the governor, Enyinnaya Appolos, on Sunday, April 15, indicated that the project which is to be known as Abia-Huajian Shoe Industrial City, Aba worth 1.5 billion dollars.  It further maintained that while the Abia State Government would provide the land and “other investment incentives” for the project, the group would fund the entire project.
The statement also indicated that the project would have the capacity to produce about 5000 pairs of shoes per day and employ about 10,000 people “directly and indirectly.”

When this piece of information appeared on the news desk, one question that confronted me was, will this not be another way of enslaving Abians?
This is considering what Nigerians go through in Chinese factories and others owned by other expertrates in places like Lagos, Ibadan and some parts of Ogun State.

Again, what happens to the already self-established and striving shoemakers in Aba?
Would they jettison their outfits for employment in the new industry?
If no, how would they cope with the more sophisticated and well-equipped Chinese firm against their own poorly equipped industry?

Will this not further dwindle the effort of an average Aba shoemaker?
What becomes of his market in competition with the new firm’s?

I stand to be corrected, but one would have expected the state government to invest in practical development of the already established industry in Aba by seeking ways of securing the needed expertise and equipment for the local shoe manufacturers at subsidized amounts rather than subjecting the people to the imminent industrial slavery of cheap labour and self-sapping competition.

As I was still contemplating about how to bring out my thoughts on this, something more frightening hit me on the same China business trip by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu. What are the implications?

Here is what Cade Adams Agbugba wrote about it, and to me, it’s frightening! Except of course there is a superior view and fact about this.

“GOVERNOR PhD OKEZIE JUST SOLD HIS PEOPLE AND THE GENERATION UNBORN FOR CASH-

The word “Trade agreements” are the product of negotiations between two or more sovereign nations that dictate the terms of the acceptable exchange of goods and services between the parties.
Donald Trump ran his entire campaign of CHINESE IS COMING.
In Europe the most frightful warning today is Chinese are coming. Why? because of China aggressive and extremely selfish business strategy.

If Gov PhD Okezie on behalf of Abia state had arrange for Abia traders to export (—say Abia palm oil and other goods to China)  in exchange of China  manufacturing her shoe in Abia. One will be  talking of good or bad deal, balanced or unbalanced deal…

But to bring a huge dragon like Chines and then confuse the damage to come by comparing China shoe manufactures  with shoprites, PZ, Lever Brothers ,IEA and Nigerian Brewery- is embarrassing and shameful

China has led the shoe manufacturing business for many years now, and remains to do so with its 12.6 billion pairs of shoes produced annually today.
China, India, Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistan and Thailand fought very hard to push Italy from #1 – 20 years ago to #9 in 2017—Look at those country, they have one thing in common, huge population and cheap labor.

Gov PhD Okezie should know that Shoe Making is no rocket science and bringing Chines to a trade and art his people have perfected for years – JUST  for more IGR is (A GENERATIONAL THEFT) and the pretense that everything will calm down and be ok, is very NAIVE —-

Today >70% of Igbo shoe makers have no college degree

>80% of Chines shoe makers have no college degree, >90% of shoe makers worldwide have no college degree-

That show how  generic shoe making is – is no rocket science or above the organic know how in Abia state.

Small statistic for PhD Okezie and his Footsoldiers-

The world second largest shoe producer India makes

 (2.1 billion pairs per year)
World 3rd Brazil (895 million pairs per year)
World 4th Vietnam (760 million pairs per year)
World 5th  Indonesia (660 million pairs per year)
World 6th Pakistan (295 million pairs per year)
World 7th Thailand (245 million pairs per year)
World 8th Mexico (245 million pairs per year)
World 9th Italy (205 million pairs per year) and
World 10th Turkey (175 million pairs per year)

China produce more shoe (12.6 billion pairs per year) than the total production of number 1 to number 20.combined
Nigeria projected to be world third largest population 2050 after India (the coming #1) China (the current #2) and Nigeria.

So Okezie PhD just helped China to swallow #3 Nigeria even before it becomes #3 / Lagos today belongs to China banks, most of Buhari credits from China banks and Nigeria projected 400 million being prepaid for Chinese slavery.

the only cancellation is that i wont be around, but my children and grand children will be… why i feel betrayed by this lazy PhD governor—

We have a president with no college education performing horrible a governor with college education(Okoroacha  Imo-State) stealing from pensioners and retirees  and one with PhD that just sold the future of the generation unborn.

These are facts in public domain— that PhD Okezie and his foot soldiers should read before embarrassing themselves with shoprite, and Nigerian breweries comparison.”

WHY DG DSS LAWAL DAURA SHOULD ALSO GO!

The suspension of SGF Lawal Babacir and the DG NIA, has without doubt, reaffirmed the confidence that millions of Nigerian masses have in the leadership of President  Muhammad Buhari. Furthermore, this move has shown the international community that Nigeria’s fight against corruption is as relentless and holistic as ever. Our prestige as the giant of Africa and a modern civilised nation where the rule of law takes precedence over all other considerations is now becoming a well established fact.

Now, following the sacking of Ita Ekpenyong and the appointment of Lawal Daura as the DG DSS, there was euphoria among the populace that the secret police agency will transform itself into a modern corruption-free, transparent, and accountable organisation that operates within the confines of the law. Unfortunately, that has not been entirely the case. After the dismissal of several state directors, which drew wide media coverage and praise by the masses, the organisation under Lawal Daura seems to have slowly derailed and lost focus.

Corruption and lack of better conditions of service for low ranking field officers is rife at the DSS. The situation was so endemic that at one point so many officers were forced to voluntarily leave the agency for greener pastures. We at CUPS have received so many complaints, which we felt too embarrassed to even publish.

As if poor management is not bad enough, the dabbling by Lawal Daura into the dirty politics of the 8th Senate against the Presidency has been disastrous. It has undermined the position of the agency as a neutral unbiased state service that is fit for purpose. Siding with Bukola Saraki to undermine the EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu and the Comptroller General of Customs, Hamid Ali, is uncalled for. It is the worst possible form of treachery that must never go unpunished.

Bukola Saraki remains the most corrupt and dangerous man in Nigerian political landscape. A DG DSS who supports Bukola Saraki is equally dangerous. This is why we contend that it is better for his Excellency, President Muhammadu Bahari, to show Lawal Daura the exit door, before it becomes too late. In the war against impunity, tyranny, genocide, and corruption, to save Nigeria from peril, there are no untouchables.
Furthermore, in such a situation, Buhari’s life, health, safety and security come as the highest priority.
Finally, the hypocritical, corrupt and incompetent Nigerian media chose not to address this pertinent issue of national significance, for fear of losing their free largesse from Bukola Saraki. We at CUPS chose to be different. We are ferociously independent and fearless in our reporting. We remain incorruptible. We will expose anyone, who we deem a threat to the corporate existence of the Nigerian state.

May God save Nigeria and Nigerians. Amen.

Dr. Idris Ahmed.

BREAKING: NIA Never Briefed Buhari On Any ‘Covert’ Projects.

The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) never briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on its ‘covert projects’ being supposedly financed with the monies recovered from an Ikoyi flat, presidency sources have told TheCable.

This has further raised suspicion that the monies were being warehoused for individual use and not for official purposes.

On Wednesday, EFCC said it discovered $43.4m, £27,800 and N23.2m in a house in Ikoyi, Lagos following a tip-off from a whistle blower.

There was a flurry of speculation on who actually owns the money, with names of prominent Nigerians being mentioned.
The NIA stepped up to claim ownership, saying the funds were approved by former president Goodluck Jonathan for “covert” security projects.

However, government insiders have informed TheCable that “it is a cock and bull story”.

“It is impossible, probably treasonable, that a security agency will be carrying out covert operations without the knowledge of the sitting president and commander-in-chief of the armed forces,” the source said.

“The president has been in power for nearly two years now and not once did the NIA DG mention any such project to him, either at security meetings or one-on-one.

“From what we know so far, funds were indeed approved by Jonathan for the agency in late 2014. But like the monies released for Boko Haram operations, the funds were diverted for non-security use. That is why they ended up in a private residence.

“It appears the funds were diverted for the 2015 elections but some smarter guys kept part for personal use.”

‘SENSITIVE DOCUMENTS’
Ayodele Oke, the NIA director-general, was appointed by Jonathan in November 2013 and retained by Buhari, even though he replaced other security chiefs in August 2015.

While the Ikoyi operation was underway on Wednesday, Oke was reported to have run to the office of Ibrahim Magu, the EFCC chairman, to inform him that there were “covert” security funds in the flat being searched by the operatives.
However, TheCable understands that Oke only told Magu that there were “sensitive documents” in the house and pleaded that EFCC should abort the operation.
A security official who spoke to TheCable on Friday said “that was what gave away the game”.
“Oke had never mentioned any discreet project being executed by NIA since he started holding security meetings with the president in June 2015,” the official said.
“He never mentioned anything of this nature to the president in private either. For him to be coming up with this story in April 2017 — for the first time — there is a clear case of an attempted cover-up.”
Gordon Obuah, the chief security officer to Jonathan from 2010-2015, died suddenly on Thursday after a “massive heart attack”, leading to speculation that he might also have known about the funds.
He was being investigated separately by the DSS over security funds linked to him and had his movement curtailed by the secret police in the last two years.
UNANSWERED QUESTIONS
Several posers are being raised which further put a dent on NIA’s claims of ownership.
“To start with, if the president, if the national security adviser and if other security chiefs were never aware of covert projects until now, that in itself is a big problem,” another top official said.
“Second, if NIA needs such a huge amount of money in Nigeria, it has enough safes in fortified offices to keep it. It does not need an unprotected private residence. It makes no sense to keep the funds in a private residence without putting operatives on guard.
“Third, if a covert project was approved and monies were collected more than two years ago, are the projects still being executed? Why was no progress report filed with the president? Budgets are released yearly and unspent funds are retired yearly. There is also no record that the NIA sought exemption or got approval to keep the monies away from TSA.”
The source said the president is awaiting reports from the national security adviser, Babagana Monguno, before taking further action.
